Bangkok, Thailand – 22-23 Nov 2024

Region 16 is one of the designated regions covering most of Asia, which manages the delivery of ATLS in its member nations. The annual meeting features a variety of talks covering updates to ATLS, and updates in the pedagogy of trauma education in the region. A highlight of the session is the free paper competition which pits residents from member nations for a chance to represent region XVI at the ACS Committee on Trauma, international residents paper competition at their annual meeting in Mar 2025 in Chicago.

This year’s meeting focused on the upcoming 11th edition of ATLS which will be promulgated in Jun 2025. It involves changes in key concepts including a renewed emphasis of xABCDE with control of eXanguinating haemorrhage emphasised as a key strep.

The delivery of ATLS was discussed in various regions across Asia. ACT Members presented their experiences in their member states including Prof Narain Chotirosniramit describing the experience in Thailand and Dr Raj Menon presenting on the use of virtual reality to teach principles of triage and ATLS in Singapore.

The winner of the free paper competition was Dr Milandeep Kaur from India on psychosocial support for amputees. Dr Mcguiness from New Zealand took 2nd place for his paper on a rib fracture care program, and 3rd place went to Dr Shawn from Singapore on his paper on the injury burden borne by migrant workers. They received their awards from Prof Scott D’Amours, the Region 16 lead. Congratulations to all the presenters.
